Portable Emission Measurement System (PEMS)

The Portable Emission Measurement System (PEMS) is a portable measurement system used to measure vehicle emissions in real time. It consists of various sensors and instruments that are attached to a vehicle to measure exhaust and other emissions while the vehicle is in operation.

It allows a vehicle’s emissions to be measured under real-world conditions while it is on the road. This is especially important for capturing actual vehicle emissions, as they can vary depending on operating conditions. PEMS are used both for monitoring compliance with emission standards and for research and development of new emission reduction technologies.

The following parameters are measured, depending on the requirements:

  • Carbon dioxide
  • Nitrogen oxides
  • Particulate matter and particle count
  • Hydrocarbons

Real Drive Emission (RDE) with PEMS racks on the vehicle

For these measuring systems, we design and manufacture individual EFM tubes and PEMS racks suitable for traffic behind the vehicle or as a trunk variant.

We have created an innovation especially for sports cars, as these do not have a trailer coupling as standard. For this purpose, we have developed racks that can be attached to the underbody and thus the entire measurement technology can be transported behind the vehicle.

These racks are technically mature and are ideally suited in handling, even for sensitive customer vehicles.
